Featuring an aluminum alloy body, this flashlight is quite strong and durable. It can withstand several hard falls without any damages. Its small size makes it a favorite among many users as it can easily fit in most purses, pockets, and glove compartments in vehicles.

One of the best things about this J5 flashlight is that its light can be adjusted to either produce a wide floodlight beam or a more focused narrow beam depending on your needs and the task at hand. It also has three different lighting modes; high, low and strobe modes, which are also adjustable depending on your needs.

Are “tactical flashlights” useful for self defense, or is that just a marketing term?

  2. gabriel says:

New to the flashlight game and a little flustered. I thought I understood more lumens=brighter light but then in the FAQ I saw candela? Not quite sure the differences there…and I’m not very electrical smart so I didn’t even try to learn about battery types. I was hoping you guys might have a recommendation. I was looking at a XT11GT for an EDCflashlight. I wanted something that could be multi-purpose, defense or general purpose. So the zoom I like. In addition to that the fact that you can do one-touch strobe is the whole reason I started looking at more “tactical” flashlights. Other aspects I really like are ;being able to check battery life, pre-programmed settings the are user friendly, “turbo” switch and the aftermarket accesories are a big seller too(the pressure switch would be sweet mounted the the rail of an AR). If you guys have other recommendations I would really like to hear them. If it can temporarily blind someone while being on constant beam that’s a huge plus, aftermarket accesories for guns is huge plus, the more affordable the better.

Is the light I picked out a decent choice? Or would you guys pick something different for the applications I have stated? (I know it’s not a very “beginner” choice, but it IS really fucking cool)

Hello all, I hope you can guide me in the right direction!

Purpose – EDC, defense (blinding possible attacker), general use.
Size – I would very much like something small (~4″ length) but am willing to go up in size if I must.
Battery Type & Quantity – No preference.
Price Range – Would prefer ~$50 but willing to to up to ~$100.
    Type – Handheld
Lumens – Would prefer ~500 but minimum 200.
Switch Type – Prefer tail switch, would consider anything but twisty
Anything Else? – Low/high modes would be nice, but not required. Looking for basic functions to meet the above requirements, not gimmicky 27 mode blah blah stuff.

    Thank you!

Hello! As the post suggests im looking for a powerful edc tactical flashlight for self defence purposes that fits in your pocket Ive been looking at a specific one from Olight that produces 2200 lumens. I was thinking that the more powerful a flashlight is the harder it will be for an attacker to fight because of the eye strain plus the lack of visibility although ive seen videos and read comments of people warning others about having a ‘too bright flashlight’ because the light would bounce off the attacker or near by objects and also blind me. Now I dont know what to think and am new to the vastness of different flashlighnts there are, only thinking of different flashlights as design differences and durability. Im wondering what powerful flashlights you would recommend for stopping attackers, thanks!

  5. gconnelly says:

I’ve seen many people advocate for using weapon mounted flashlights for carry at night and especially for home defense with their ccw handgun of choice.

If you were to have one handgun you regularly carried and trained with for both EDC and a flex home defense role (like the glock 19 or 43) what would better pair with it: a weapon mounted light or a high end EDC tactical flashlight?

I personally have opted for a high output tactical EDC light. I believe that most weapon mounted lights, especially for handguns tend to have less output and I enjoy the flexibility of being able to use a light without drawing my weapon. Furthermore holsters for handguns with weapon lights tend to be bulkier.

I would appreciate the thoughts and opinions of the community here on the subject and my choices 🙂
